Introduction
In Part 1 of this series, we explored the Atlas vertebra (C1) as the sacred support for our three “I’s”: the two eyes of physical sight and the third eye of spiritual vision. We learned that alignment is essential, and that the Atlas, both as a bone and as a symbol, teaches us how orientation guides perception.
But the story of Atlas is not limited to anatomy. It stretches into myth, philosophy, and modern allegory. Atlas, the Titan, was condemned to hold up the heavens for eternity. And in Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, the metaphor becomes societal: what happens when those who carry the weight of the world decide to let it go?
This brings us to a profound question: what happens when Atlas shrugs? What happens when the bearer of burdens releases the weight? Spiritually, this question is not just about bones or myths. It is about you and me. It is about every Soul that carries too much and wonders if release is possible.
Atlas in Myth: The Eternal Burden
In Greek mythology, Atlas is one of the Titans punished after the great war with the Olympian gods. His sentence was severe: to hold up the heavens for all eternity. Unlike other punishments that offered some form of release, Atlas’s burden was endless.
Atlas symbolizes the archetype of endless responsibility. He is the one who carries what no one else dares. His story mirrors the way many of us live: shouldering burdens, responsibilities, and expectations, often without questioning whether they truly belong to us.
Spiritually, the myth teaches us that to hold something forever without release is not balance, but bondage. Atlas is a reminder of what happens when we confuse responsibility with imprisonment.
The Atlas Vertebra: The Neck That Bears Too Much
Just as Atlas in myth carries the sky, our Atlas vertebra carries the head. It is the first vertebra, the hinge that upholds not only the skull but also our seat of consciousness.
When the Atlas vertebra is aligned, the body finds ease. But when it bears too much strain, whether from posture, tension, or trauma, it falters. Headaches, dizziness, jaw pain, or fatigue often follow. The body speaks in metaphor: the bearer of burdens is out of balance.
In energy work and psychic mediumship, I often notice that those who carry unspoken responsibilities, family wounds, ancestral patterns, and societal expectations feel this weight physically at the base of the skull and shoulders. The Atlas becomes the silent witness of the burdens we refuse to release.
And just like in the myth, the lesson emerges: no one can carry the sky forever.
Atlas Shrugged: A Modern Allegory
Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged is not a spiritual text in itself, but it offers a metaphor we cannot ignore. In her novel, the “Atlases” are the innovators, creators, and visionaries who uphold the structures of society. When they grow weary of exploitation and decide to “shrug”, to release their support, the system begins to collapse.
While Rand’s message is philosophical and political, spiritually it raises a profound question: what happens when we release the burdens that were never truly ours?
For the individual, this might look like:
- Letting go of family obligations that stifle your Soul.
- Releasing patterns of over-giving or over-serving.
- Allowing yourself to say “no” when your spirit whispers that it is time.
For the collective, it might look like questioning outdated systems, collapsing beliefs that no longer serve, and creating space for a new alignment.
Shrugging, in this sense, becomes an act of liberation. It is the moment when we realize that to release is not to fail, it is to realign.
The Common Thread: Support, Burden, and Release
When we weave together the Atlas vertebra, the Titan Atlas, and the allegory of Atlas Shrugged, a shared pattern emerges:
- Support: Atlas (bone, Titan, or visionary) upholds something greater than himself.
- Burden: That support becomes too heavy, distorting alignment.
- Release: Shrugging is the sacred act of letting go, allowing realignment.
The teaching is clear: not every burden is ours to carry. Some are ancestral. Some are societal. Some are self-imposed. And some simply no longer belong.
A Psychic Medium’s Reflection: The Courage to Shrug
As a psychic medium, I often meet clients who believe they must hold the world together. They care for family, carry generational pain, or uphold traditions that weigh heavily on their spirits. They arrive exhausted, burdened, and longing for freedom.
Through sessions, spirit often reminds them: You are allowed to shrug. You are allowed to release the weight that does not serve you. In doing so, you do not abandon others, you model alignment.
One of the most powerful messages I share as a psychic medium is that shrugging is not selfishness. It is courage. It is the courage to choose authenticity over illusion, freedom over bondage, and alignment over burden.
When I shrug off what is not mine, I realign with truth. And in that alignment, my gifts as a psychic and medium shine brighter, serving others from a place of clarity instead of depletion.
Universal Law of Rhythm: The Necessity of Release
The Universal Law of Rhythm teaches us that all of life moves in cycles, expansion and contraction, holding and releasing, giving and receiving.
To hold forever is to deny rhythm. To shrug is to return to flow.
The Universal Law of Polarity also comes into play: burden and freedom exist as opposites, each defining the other. Without the possibility of shrugging, support becomes imprisonment. Without the courage to release, we forget that balance is possible.
These laws remind us that shrugging is not destruction; it is restoration.
Practical Spiritual Insights: Learning to Shrug Gracefully
How can we embody the teaching of Atlas Shrugged in our daily lives?
- Notice the Weight You Carry – Pause to reflect: what burdens sit on your shoulders, both literally and metaphorically? Are they truly yours?
- Give Yourself Permission to Release – Speak aloud: “This is not mine to carry.” Shrug your shoulders gently, letting your body mirror the act of spiritual release.
- Align With What Supports You – Seek practices, people, and places that uplift. As Ontario’s best psychic medium, I oftentimes remind clients that alignment begins by surrounding yourself with support that nourishes, not drains.
- Trust the Ripple of Release – When you shrug, you do not cause collapse; you create space. Trust that the Universe will rebalance when you step aside.
Living as a Shrugging Atlas
Each of us has moments when we feel like Atlas, carrying the sky, holding up everyone else’s world. But the wisdom of both body and spirit is this: we are not meant to hold endlessly.
To shrug is not to abandon responsibility. It is important to remember the rhythm. It is to realign with truth. It is to choose balance over bondage.
When Atlas shrugs, the sky does not fall. Instead, the burden shifts, realigns, and transforms. And, so it is with us. When we release, life reshapes itself around new alignment.
Closing: From Burden to Realignment
The journey of Atlas continues to teach us. In Part 1, we learned that the Atlas vertebra supports our three eyes of perception. In Part 2, we have discovered that shrugging, release, is just as essential as support.
Spiritually, the teaching is clear: we are allowed to shrug. We are allowed to release burdens that distort alignment. We are allowed to live in truth, clarity, and freedom.
If you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders, remember that you are not alone. Many who seek out a psychic medium are longing for permission to release. As a psychic medium, I remind them that shrugging is sacred. It is the path to realignment.
So, may you carry lightly, shrug freely, and align with the rhythm of truth. And as we continue into Part 3 of this series, we will explore how lies, especially the so-called “white lies”, can distort alignment, and why truth alone keeps the Atlas within us steady and free.
